What Is Avon?

Avon is a worldwide company that sells beauty and personal care products – like makeups, perfume, undies, etc.

Avon is actually one of the oldest MLMs inside the beauty products and personal care industry. In fact, Avon has more than 130 years in existence. It was founded back in 1886 – just 21 years after the 1st world war.

In 2018, Avon has brought in around $5.7 billion worldwide and this is probably because of the multi-level marketing position policy that they have.

While the numbers are impressive and despite the long business existence, not all Avon Representatives are earning money. Why? Unless you recruit a lot of new members (representatives) on your down lines and earn from their sales – it is nearly impossible to earn full-time with this business.

My Personal Experience With Avon

When I was introduced to Avon by a friend many years ago, I was definitely convinced that this company has great products that I like. In fact, I love their makeups and perfumes and I personally use them at that time.

Although I know that Avon was and still is a multi-level marketing business, I joined as a representative – mainly because I use their products anyway. So I get 20% discounts on my personal consumption.

So, selling was definitely not my intention and neither the recruiting!

If you happened to be an Avon Representative already, then you know – that a representative like me (just buying for personal consumption around $10 a month) will not be going to elevate your income to full-time income.

When building a team in this business, you need people who really want to sell and recruit more people in your team.

How To Join The Avon Team?

You can directly go to their website or ask an Avon Representative (if you know one) to join their team.

To become an Avon Representative, you need to buy a startup kit from $30. This amount varies depending on which country you’re joining in.

For example in the UK, you can choose from Advanced Kit (£90), Essentials Kit (£30) and Start-Up Kit (£15).

Why Is Earning Full-Time With Avon Not Easy?

Just like any other MLMs, generating a full-time income with Avon is quite complex and far to be easy.

Let’s say you became representative, inside the team ladder, you will be called as a Beauty Fan Or Promoter. As you climb the position stair way, you need to recruit people under you so you can earn money from them.

At the short glance, it’s always amazing to see all the examples of how much you could be earning. But, why it’s not that easy to earn a full-time income with Avon?

Because the system is built that way, the people on top earn most of the company and the people at the bottom lose all the money.

So, let say your desired full-time income is equivalent to a decent $5,000 a month. If you are an Avon Representative that earns 25% of your personal sales, then you need to sell $20,000 worth of products.

The main challenge in selling the products is that they are relatively expensive compared to the products outside MLMs – and people who buy these products a mostly those who patronage the products itself.

Another thing is, they’re a lot of Avon Representatives everywhere even in your own town. So, the competition is high because the other representatives are not on your team.

What your last option? You need to RECRUIT new members/representatives who will face the same problems and then quit after a couple of weeks or months max.

Is Avon A Pyramid Scheme?

Pyramid Schemes are illegal. They are scams.

The good news is – Avon is Not a Pyramid Scheme and it’s legit.

The bad news is – People still think it’s a Pyramid scheme. Unfortunately, they have a reason to believe so.

Avon is legit because it has physical products and you can earn money by selling these products. Unfortunately, you can not earn a substantial amount of money unless you recruit people on your down line and make commissions using the network marketing system (which is the main element of a pyramid scheme).

That’s why people who join Avon are focusing on recruiting new representatives rather than doing the direct selling – To make much more money.

And those who do the direct selling stops because they realize soon after that it’s just a waste of time because if their target is to earn a consistent full-time income.

This is how MLM exactly works. 

The reason why people are focusing on building their down line in their team (recruiting new members) is that being on top is where the money at – they make much more money from their down line members provided the new recruits will do the same (recruiting) plus a little selling. 

So, the further down you are in the pyramid, the more difficult it is to make money because commissions are always flowing upwards and most of the profit is stuck on the top. 

So, the probability to earn money by joining an MLM business is very low. 

How low? 

Only 1% Make Money With MLM Business

If you’ve read my bio, so you probably remember that I tried at least 3 MLM businesses. Probably I thought it was that easy as they presented it to me or maybe because I thought it’s a quick fix business. 

I thought – all I have to do was to recruit 2 people – one on my right and one on my left side – and the business will take care of itself. I thought it was that passive! And that’s far from the reality.

My last journey with an MLM business was actually a “nicest one” – great products and a good company. But no matter how great the products were – I didn’t make a fortune.

I was recruited by my brother and a lot of my family members became members too. I recruited my friends too – some of them joined.

But you know what the BIG problem was?! The recruits of my recruits’ recruits were no longer connected to me. So, once they stopped working, the business died.

Why? it’s because it was more difficult to convince someone to do the sales talk than to convince them to join. 

Most of the people who join MLM do actually expect that their uplines will always do the sales work. Little they realize that this mindset is actually the one killing the team – the idle members.

So, MLMs are not a quick rich scheme – it’s a real business that requires an enormous effort of selling tasks and team building.

So, why are there only a few people make real money with MLM? Because it’s designed that way – Only people on the top get rewarded and the people at the bottom lose money.

• Saturated market
• MLM has a very low success rate (1%)
• MLMs are commonly and mistakenly thought as pyramid schemes
• Needs a lot of time and effort in selling and team building
• Focus on recruitment – including families and friends
• MLMs stay only hot for 2 years
