On Day 1 and Day 2 was an introduction of myself and the concept of making money with affiliate marketing. We signed up for Wealthy Affiliate for FREE and took a brief look at what they have to offer to online entrepreneurs.

Today’s scope:

• The “make money online” scam-industry and how it relates to affiliate marketing.
• The right mindset for success.
• Setting some realistic goals.

Is this your first attempt to make money online?

Is this your first email/online course on how to start a website/blog?

Chances are, you’ve tried and failed to earn money online already.

And there is a good chance that you’ve already tried a couple of times.

So, I bet that you are already fed up with the “make money online” Programs, schemes, systems, blueprints, secrets, etc.

Unfortunately, this phrase has been being abused by thousands of people on the internet so much, that the topic is banned in many writing communities because of the mere mention of making money online brings spammers running after.

There are thousand and one way of making money online – from selling handmade barbie gown to joining pyramid schemes.

It’s difficult to tell what’s legit and what isn’t.

So, these are the few rules I personally follow to decide what’s a scam and what’s legit.

• The promise of fast or easy money.
• MUST resell the same product to your friends.
• Advertising show examples of that easy money.
• The unclear idea of the product BEFORE purchase.
• Talking how much you can earn but not how it works.

Some more questions to ask:

• Did you buy something for $1, but then being asked to spend another $100 right away? The multiple upsells are very typical.
• Are they cold-calling you for “personal coaching”?
• Is it more attractive to recruit new members and sell actual products?
• Are the testimonials real?
• Can you check who the real owner is?
• Can you see direct and multiple ways to contact this company upfront?

These are some of the sure signs of a scam. 

Well, don’t feel bad if you’ve been a victim of a scam or have tried something that doesn’t work for you at all. Many of us have, including me.

Back in 2009 and 2012, I bought expensive trading software programs – for forex and binary options because they promised me to earn money instantly and automatically every single hour.

It sounded really nice!

The truth is, there is no such software that really makes money at all – Not in this mileage! I lost a lot of money for the software itself and for the trading capital in that platform.

It’s really hard to separate something legit and something not. One example and the trickiest is multi-leverage marketing (MLM). Very few of them are legit, but they are tons of people on the internet who have exploited the real concept of it.

Yes, I tried some legit MLMs too before I entered affiliate marketing. Like Forever Living, Essential Oils and VitaPlus – these are all good enough. But the concept doesn’t work for me at all.

The trouble was, I paid a bunch of fees to become a member, I hated selling and product presentation meetings. I hated recruiting my own families and friends just to earn money from their memberships. And the biggest one is the fear of personal rejections Upfront. I experienced it many times.

It literally sucks to try so hard and deep inside you, you know your limits and boundaries. Very embarrassing to fall into scams many times, but it can happen to any of us.

So, let’s ‘get real’ for a moment.

How long will it take you to build a full-scale business so you can quit your DAY job (or stop looking for one)?

There are a lot of variables and premises to consider. So, unfortunately, I can’t give you a precise answer. It took me 8 years of hard research with sweat and tears – and then just 1 and a ½ year building the right and profitable online business for me. But, I know a guy who did it in 2 years, a girl who did it in a year, another guy that did it in 6 months, and another one that did it in 4 years.

Amazingly, things can happen and your story will be absolutely unique. I can’t make any promise as to when, or how much money you will make.

As I mentioned in one of my articles, It’s like opening an onsite retail store – your profit will be based on your performance.

Example: Opening a jewelry shop, fashion shop or electronic shops at the mall gives different profits ranges. And it will differ according to different variables of location, types of customers and different owners.

I can give you some prudent advice that will help you start earning faster and increase your chances of success in earning money online. You don’t need to go through 8-year hard research with sweat and tears as I had – I will definitely spare you from that.

1. Take Action

I’m sorry I have to say it again and again, TAKE ACTION. People want to read and read about how to do something rather than ACTUALLY DO it.

As long as you don’t take steps forward, you’ll always be in the same place.

2. Ask Questions

Remember that nobody starts as an expert. Everyone started as a newbie at one time. Ask anything you like in WA. No one will make you feel stupid. Remember, we are in the virtual world of the internet, you’ll never have to see these people in real life, so please, ask as many boring, silly simple questions as possible.

3. Believe in Yourself – Believe That It Works, And You Can Make It.

Many people come to me and say – I need to see results first before I invest so much time with this. “I’ll just use 15 minutes a day until I see some income, then I’ll do 15 hours per day”. They have this equation backward!

You need to be working hard to see results. Sometimes, you will work 3-4hours on your website/blog and see no income for the day. It’ll be very frustrating! But if you repeat that process daily for a couple of months, you’ll start seeing $5, $10, $20 $125 per day and more.

Remember, you will only fail if you quit.

You’ll never know when success is just right around the corner. Some people are smart and fast learners. They can figure these things out in a couple of months. And there are people like me who take at least a year or two to “go to full time” and quit their job.

Focus. Focus. Focus.

Focus on your own story.

Remember that people go to colleges and universities, invest years of their time and huge money to reach their dream job. This is more likely that way: invest your time and see results afterward – NOT as expensive as universities though!

Making Money Online With Realistic Goals.

Real Working Expectations:

1. Spend at least 30 minutes to 1 hour every day doing something on your website or in the lessons. If you happen to have English as your second language, like me, then expect it double: 1-2 hours every day.
2. You’ll not earn money for at least a few months if you are new to this business.
3. You’ll not get rich overnight. Success will come slowly, but surely!
4. You’ll get frustrated and confused sometimes, and that’s normal!

Those are all kinds of bad news for working expectations, so let’s look at the positives that you can expect:

1. There are so many newbies like yourself at Wealthy Affiliate. You can consult and collaborate with any members with a different level of expertise 24/7/365.
2. You can definitely achieve a full-time income within a year or two! Just keep working though.
3. Your online income is unlimited.
4. You can eventually outsource many of your daily tasks, thus reducing your work hours.
5. You can earn money with these skills by working on other people’s website.
6. You can sell your website for a huge profit 40X monthly earnings, i.e. a website with monthly revenue of $1,000 can give you $40,000!
7. Online shopping and sales are growing across the globe. Your business will naturally grow as the internet grows.
8. You earn passive income as websites are online 24/7/365, so your business earns money while you sleep.
9. You have nothing to lose – all your effort will be well paid off.
